The University of Oxford is the oldest university in the English-speaking world, with a history of continuous existence spanning nine centuries. It is a world-leading research-intensive institution dedicated to its mission of advancing learning through teaching and research. The university is governed by a collegiate system and is currently led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Irene Tracey. Its facilities are spread throughout the city, including the historic Science Area on South Parks Road and the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter. New developments include the Stephen A. Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities, expected to open in 2025. The university's footprint extends to specialized sites like the Begbroke Science Park and the University Parks. It also manages world-renowned cultural sites, including the Ashmolean Museum (the world's oldest public museum), the Oxford Botanic Garden (the oldest in the UK), and the Bodleian Libraries, which constitute the largest university library system in the United Kingdom.
